The Valley of Puerto Escondido is the entrance of Siera de Bahoruco National Park.
Kate Wallace arrived in the country in 1994 as a Peace Corps Volunteer and began exploring the natural wonders. She began guiding in 1997. As an active member of Birds Caribbean (formerly Society of Caribbean Ornithology) she has coordinated many of their activities. She built Villa Barrancoli, in the village of Puerto Escondido which is located at 400+meters above the Lago Enriquillo basin. This is the base camp for visits to Zapoten , the high elevation site for many of the endemic birds.
